What Will You Learn?
Mandy Pattullo is a textile artist who primarily works with pieces of old quilt, French and vintage textiles and uses textile collage techniques to build up her enchanting fabric pictures. She will be bringing some of these exciting and special materials with her and demonstrating how you can use them in conjunction with hand stitch to create unique illustrative work. You will have the chance to create a portrait of a garden bird, to look at how to create stylised flowers through finger turned applique, free collage or fussy cutting and using and referring to domestic embroidery.. You might even have time to celebrate our bees too. There would be no flowers without them!
Mandy will show you inspiring examples of her own work and guide you all the way and remember you get to work on and use some of those special quilt fragments that are the signature of her work.
A LITTLE ABOUT COURT HOUSE FARM…
Which isn’t really a working farm at all! It’s more of a lovely cluster of charming historic buildings, the site originally dating from pre doomsday. The remaining Manor and smaller Manor are medieval and Tudor, dating from 1350, with some characterful outbuildings. (You may be making things in the cowshed- but no cows and clean!) we have 4 acres of land around the buildings with a little flower farm, and we are right in the heart of a small estuary sea-side town of Portishead in Somerset (with a lovely little high street, Marina and stunning coastal walks and the most fabulous setting suns). Do look at more information on the website and for photographs of the interiors and exteriors. During your stay, we will have some additional fun interludes and entertainment (we must show you our neighbouring little seaside town called Clevedon- with the prettiest Pier in England) and of course plenty of flowers!

More About Mandy Patullo
Textile Artist Mandy Pattullo will be joining us in June 2023 to share some of her textile collage techniques.
Mandy treasures the old and worn, refashioning vintage textiles into new compositions which are embellished with stitch and appliqué. She is especially known for her use of old and tattered quilts. She works on to the surface of these but also deconstructs and unpicks them to reveal hidden layers and stitching shadows.
Mandy’s collages, garments, fabric books and bags bring together precious fragments to form evocative compositions.
The viewer is forced to re-examine fabrics that have become flawed through wear and tear, to find in them a new beauty.
